Informational Self-determination
The strengthening of the individual
citizen's right to control what information on her or him exits and
may be used by other parties such as businesses.
Government Transparency
No state secrets, and no more back room deals with lobbyists, through the democratic accessibility of all government data following the principle of a public forum but by the means of modern communication technology.
Open Access and Education
The cultural and scientific heritage of mankind should be openly accessible to everybody via the Internet, no matter whether it will have to be paid for or will be free of charge, as long as it can be accessed easily, fast and from anywhere within our society, without having to depend on monopolistic providers. The peer-to-peer system provides the best model for this scenario of an open and truly free society not free as in free lunch, but free as in freedom and liberty.
Copyright
The copyright needs to be adapted to this situation, in order to further protect the authorship of creative individuals and/or corporations, but not at the expense of the public by merely restricting access.
Patent Right
The same holds true for patents on inventions and discoveries, as for example on plant and animal genes and even on the human genome, all of which, aside from philosophical and religious concerns, hinder the free progress of science more than they help it.
