[21:30] <~MikkelPaulson> I call the meeting to order
[21:30] <~MikkelPaulson> first order of business I think is the auditor
[21:31] <~MikkelPaulson> is everything in order?
[21:31] <+Nuitari> still missing your letter appointing him
[21:31] <+Zblewski> Purolate one, Paulson?
[21:31] <~MikkelPaulson> oh, I thought you said we needed a motion?
[21:32] <+Nuitari> let me check
[21:32] <+Nuitari> sorry a resolution
[21:32] <~MikkelPaulson> okay
[21:33] <+Nuitari> Be it resolved that the party auditor is now Gilbert
Bastings, sign bla bla bla
[21:33] <~MikkelPaulson> so everything seems to be above-board? no
reservations about proceeding with it?
[21:33] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:34] <+Zblewski> Yay
[21:34] <+Nuitari> plus we don't exactly have a lot of choices in front
of us
[21:34] <~MikkelPaulson> true
[21:34] <~MikkelPaulson> uh, could you make a slightly more formal motion
for the record? I'm not sure I want to sign my name beneath “bla bla bla”
;)
[21:35] <+Nuitari> let me send you the one we did for bdo
[21:35] <~MikkelPaulson> sure
[21:36] <+Nuitari> you can remove the cruft about the vote, they don't
give a shit about that
[21:36] <~MikkelPaulson> noted
[21:38] <~MikkelPaulson> in that case, I move that Gilbert Bastings be
appointed the auditor of the Pirate Party of Canada, effective
immediately.
[21:38] <~MikkelPaulson> I vote yes
[21:39] <+Nuitari> yes
[21:39] <~MikkelPaulson> Zblewski?
[21:39] <+Nuitari> he already voted yes...
[21:40] <~MikkelPaulson> must've missed that
[21:40] <~MikkelPaulson> okay, the motion passes
[21:40] <~MikkelPaulson> we'll get the paperwork signed up tonight
[21:41] <~MikkelPaulson> they're okay if we send it by email?
[21:41] <+Nuitari> yeah you can email ELaine Martel directly I think
[21:41] <~MikkelPaulson> okay, I'll send it to you to sign as well
[21:42] <~MikkelPaulson> and… would rintaran be required to sign as
secretary?
[21:42] <+Nuitari> yes
[21:42] <~MikkelPaulson> okay
[21:43] <~MikkelPaulson> anything else on that?
[21:43] <+Zblewski> N'op.
[21:43] <~MikkelPaulson> already
[21:43] <~MikkelPaulson> Mike, what has Jeff said to you about
discussions with the Green candidate?
[21:44] <+Zblewski> He described the situation to me the best he could
and asked about my opinion
[21:44] <+Zblewski> Quite frankly
[21:44] <+Zblewski> I don't know where to go with it
[21:44] <+Nuitari> I think we should go with it if it means we can get
more support in Winnipeg
[21:44] <+Zblewski> Considering our history with the Greens federally,
and our relative new-ness
[21:46] <+Zblewski> If we do this, it should be explicitly one-time, and
for that candidate, and we will have to notify the Greens upstairs
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> what history are you referring to?
[21:46] <+Nuitari> them saying how there isn't a need for us because of
their platform on copyright
[21:46] <+Nuitari> well
[21:46] <+Nuitari> elizabeth may
[21:46] <+Nuitari> not the party
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> that's true
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> well, in one YouTube video, anyway
[21:46] <+Zblewski> The fact that they have dismissed us in the past, and
that they have passed off the entire pirate movement as something under
the greens, when PPSE joined Greens-EFA
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> I'm not sure that precludes us from ever having
any political relations with them
[21:47] <~MikkelPaulson> well, I think they'd like a monopoly on the
“fringe party” label
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> which is increasingly poorly-applied to them
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> however, I don't think Jeff was thinking of
asking John Harvie to endorse the party
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> just his candidacy
[21:49] <+Zblewski> And we would be doing the same
[21:49] <+Zblewski> but I want to notify the Greens so that they know the
exact setup
[21:50] <+Zblewski> I'm fine with it
[21:50] <~MikkelPaulson> mm, I don't see that their communication with
their candidate is any business of ours
[21:50] <~MikkelPaulson> if that's something that interests him, it'll
have to be his responsibility to clear it with the higher-ups
[21:50] <+Zblewski> I don't care. I just don't want the Greens spinning
anything
[21:50] <~MikkelPaulson> if we have to make overtures to them on Jeff's
behalf, then it's not a candidate-to-candidate agreement
[21:51] <~MikkelPaulson> where do you think this would end up?
[21:51] <+Zblewski> This can't just be a candidate-to-candidate
agrreement when there's two ridings involved
[21:51] <~MikkelPaulson> that's true
[21:51] <~MikkelPaulson> but it's not a Pirate Party candidate endorsing
a Green candidate in Vaughan
[21:51] <~MikkelPaulson> it's NDP
[21:52] <~MikkelPaulson> although it'll be interesting to see the
political repercussions of that move in the coming days
[21:52] <+Zblewski> ...But the whole point is, we're following the NDP's
lead and endorsing the same candidate
[21:52] <~MikkelPaulson> how's that?
[21:53] <~MikkelPaulson> Jeff wants the Green candidate to endorse him,
not the other way around
[21:53] <+Zblewski> let me pull up the email
[21:53] <+Zblewski> he says
[21:54] <+Zblewski> and I'll type it verbatim
[21:55] <+Zblewski> "I could potentially get the local Green Party
candidate, who believes he has no chance of winning, to endorse me, and
the Pirate Party could officially endorse the Green candidate for
Vaughan..."
[21:55] <~MikkelPaulson> ah I see
[21:55] <~MikkelPaulson> missed that point somehow
[21:55] <+Zblewski> That's what I mean
[21:56] <~MikkelPaulson> hmm
[21:56] <+Zblewski> the Greens can spin our endorsement somehow, they
like to spin.
[21:56] <+Zblewski> When it's advantageous, that is
[21:56] <~MikkelPaulson> you have a point
[21:57] <~MikkelPaulson> on the surface, a small party being endorsed by
a large(ish) party brings a great amount of recognition that would
otherwise be unavailable to us
[21:57] <~MikkelPaulson> and producing a press release reciprocating
would not be difficult
[21:58] <~MikkelPaulson> but we also risk getting caught in the backwash
[21:58] <+Zblewski> Which is why we contact the Greens in advance
[21:58] <~MikkelPaulson> and permanently aligned with the Greens when
that's not necessarily where we want to be
[21:58] <~MikkelPaulson> not much time
[22:00] <~MikkelPaulson> Jeff's still in his event this evening,
otherwise I'd ask him to join
[22:00] <~MikkelPaulson> he has been live tweeting again
[22:00] <~MikkelPaulson> http://twitter.com/PegNorthPirate
[22:03] <+Zblewski> Well
[22:04] <+Zblewski> The premise in general, I like
[22:04] <+Zblewski> it's just that one complication
[22:04] <~MikkelPaulson> based on my impressions of John Harvie, I think
this is something that he might personally be open to
[22:04] <+Zblewski> Check your emails
[22:04] <+Zblewski> Harvie did say he was open to it
[22:05] <+Zblewski> We'll find out soon enough the final opinion
[22:05] <~MikkelPaulson> well, Jeff doesn't actually say anything about
what he would be asking of John in reciprocation
[22:06] <~MikkelPaulson> that's a subject he'll be broaching tonight
[22:06] <+Zblewski> Well, they'll be talking about it after the townhall
[22:06] <~MikkelPaulson> yeah
[22:06] <+Zblewski> I'll bet it will come up then
[22:06] <~MikkelPaulson> I thought that was the point
[22:08] <~MikkelPaulson> well, it remains to be seen if we can convince
him to go along with this
[22:08] <~MikkelPaulson> but we need to decide if we're prepared to do so
in that case
[22:09] <+Zblewski> I say yes.
[22:10] <~MikkelPaulson> I'm not going to make any final decisions until
I've heard specifics
[22:10] <~MikkelPaulson> but I'm also open to the idea
[22:10] <+Zblewski> Wish to defer until a special meeting?
[22:10] <~MikkelPaulson> let's do that
[22:10] <~MikkelPaulson> given the urgency of the matter, want to set
something up for the same time tomorrow?
[22:11] <+Zblewski> Yes.
[22:11] <+Zblewski> Nuitari?
[22:11] <~MikkelPaulson> Nuitari: can you make it?
[22:12] <+Nuitari> no
[22:12] <+Zblewski> Hm.
[22:13] <+Zblewski> Then we'll have to decide now, MikkelPaulson.
[22:13] <~MikkelPaulson> like I said, I can't make a decision until I've
heard the conditions
[22:13] <~MikkelPaulson> but I'm willing to take a vote by email if need
be
[22:15] <+Zblewski> That should hopefully suffice.
[22:16] <+Nuitari> ok
[22:16] <~MikkelPaulson> already
[22:16] <~MikkelPaulson> we'll copy clerk@ on the votes so that he can
make a record of it
[22:17] <~MikkelPaulson> last bit for me
[22:17] <~MikkelPaulson> Nuitari: is the infrastructure in place for
phone canvassing?
[22:18] <+Nuitari> what do you need for it ?
[22:19] <~MikkelPaulson> preferably the ability to call through the phone
tree so the 800 number shows on call display
[22:20] <~MikkelPaulson> I have a dev project that needs to be finished
up tomorrow, but hopefully I'll be able to do some calling on Saturday at
least
[22:22] <+Nuitari> I have one too for tomorrow
[22:22] <+Nuitari> and I just got a huge bunch of changes for it
[22:22] <~MikkelPaulson> well could you dump the phone book on us, anyway?
[22:22] <~MikkelPaulson> I believe Jake said he would help out with the
calling
[22:26] <+Nuitari> form the electors list?
[22:26] <+Nuitari> that might be a problem
[22:27] <~MikkelPaulson> I thought the point of receiving a copy of the
electors list was that you would be able to give it to people for phone
canvassing
[22:27] <+Nuitari> I need to find the box with the password
[22:30] <~MikkelPaulson> I see
[22:30] <~MikkelPaulson> well, please do that
[22:30] <~MikkelPaulson> it'll be nice to have a last chance to stir
things up before the big day
[22:31] <+Zblewski> I have a lot on my plate, so I cannot join ye
[22:34] <~MikkelPaulson> okay then
[22:34] <~MikkelPaulson> anything else to add or shall we call it a night?
[22:36] <~MikkelPaulson> I'll take that as a no
[22:36] <~MikkelPaulson> so I'll call the meeting adjourned
