Minutes Vancouver 2009.07.19
From Pirate Party of Canada
Contents |
Current goals
- Need to work on getting more signatures
- Become a non profit corporation (get bylaws, all documents)
Forum Issues
Patents: Abolish or Reform?
- Eventually want to abolish, especially for pharmaceutical, software
- Might be too drastic to abolish it right away...
Copyright: Abolish or Reform?
- Reform, for less time per copyright
Official Documents:
- Haven't looked through the current documents online, not worthwhile reading through all of them during the meeting itself
- Look through them online, post any problems/concerns that might exist
Committees:
- Do any official committees exist? (It might make it easier if they do, to help with progress on some topics)
- Check out the tasks page, sign up for something to do
Website
On its way, working on coding twitter, etc
The website is essential for advertising, as the pirate party needs to look official before people are invited.
Issues
It has currently been discussed that candidates will have a free vote upon "non-pirate issues". This brings about the actual definition of what pirate issues will be, such as more government transparency.
Other examples: Gun control, taxation of marijuanna, protection of property (sketchy to start talking about as a party issue right now)
Cellphones:
Too expensive plans at this point in time
VoIP on all cell phones? In support of this, of course, cell phone companies are not
Things to Work Towards
Professionalism, even on facebook
- Profile pictures, etc (drunken photos, what’s available to the public...)
Promotional Items
Getting support/statements from artists around canada would be very beneficial - make sure the music industry cannot say the pirate party is trying to destroy artists rights, etc
George Stromb. - Will be mentioning the Pirate Party in the next month or so
CBC Radio - hoping to do a live radio interview with Rob
Website first!
Radio stations? - calling in for free to advertise - Play the “pirate party” song that’s being written?
Frosh Week package for universities
Next Meeting
Currently assumed to be August 19th, unless something else is planned first
