I'm socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. My political beliefs lean toward minarchism -- I dislike any big government, and the opportunities such government have for oppressing people and controlling their lives. My interest in the Pirate Party is to ensure that a libertarian bent exists in the party even if it's not mainstream.
I'm a strong supporter in reducing the length of copyright and other IP monopolies, and the institution of mandatory renewals within that period for IP owners who want to keep their work out of the public domain. I also believe that net neutrality is necessary for the survival of a democratic society, and that the government should not be given any ability to spy on its own citizens. I want to see the CRTC reformed into something that serves Canadians, and not the telecom and media industries. I want to see more competition in both the telecom and media industries as well, and hope that the Pirate Party can help in removing barriers to entry.
While I dislike party politics, I understand that with the current form of government it is unavoidable. Finding that none of Canada's other parties really stand for what I believe in, I hope to ensure that the Pirate Party will.
