Who I am

My alias is Deliverance,

I am 26 and live in Toronto where I work as a software developer, I learned about civil liberties from my father a member of Human Rights Watch and a civil liberties lawyer.

Why I'm a member

I believe in net neutrality, the idea that there are not rigidly defined lines between creators and consumers of information... and that information can be propagated for free and filtered effectively.

Beyond net neutrality and my hope that all information will eventually be shared I have some medium term goals for the party.

I believe in privacy. The idea that information can be dangerous is a problematic one. It is bolstered by lean examples (individual sadistic acts) and propoganda in traditional media. The two examples most often used to yelling fire in a crowded theatre and pedophilia. Antisocial behavior has always been punished physically, and it's appearance on the internet in many public forums has not significantly diminished their usefulness. Pedophilia has not been explained sufficiently by psychologists, it's relative rarity (of reported cases) and the strong impulse it creates to react make it more effective as a propaganda tool than as a meaningful example, we need to have a patient voice that speaks for the invisible multitudes in order to prevent such propaganda from being used to advocate the kinds of civil liberties abuses we have been experiencing.

While I think direct democracy has problems (two muggers), it has a place in issues of privacy and freedom of speech. To this end I would like to see a very decentralized party. The first step in accomplishing this seems to be the implementation of an open forum of moderated discussion and voting. I propose a model similar to Slashcode/Slashdot.org it perpetuates the value of experience in the party while allowing a flexible and open moderation of anonymous discussion. It also allows for anonymous voting and the possibility of rewards based voting (Proof of Canadian Voter eligibility, paid membership status, technical assistance to the party, highly effective dialog, random lottery, popularity, etc.).

I'm not sure anonymity and equal access requires spokespeople, I know they require defending.

Internal Politics

Right now I think Rob is doing a fantastic job! I'd like him to maintain the distinction between administrator and leader until there is a need, It's going to be tough for him to remain impartial. If his goal is to discourage the production of a cabinet of any kind this party will be healthier.

I think JakeDaynes is a loud mouth, it's silly to formalize authority before calmer voices moderate the discussion and have us voting for ideals rather than self aggrandizement. Anonymous voting is sufficient to set priorities and compromise internally if it's administered well. Let's get a platform BEFORE we get leadership, then we'll have immediate discussion should they misrepresent the party.

I'm trying to collect reference points to voices I'm excited about, Odemia, shep, I'd like contact details for you guys, even if they're anonymous.
