Personal Issues
- Freedom of information
- I believe the Government -- and all of its dealings, policy, and data produced in all endeavours -- should be fully accessible to the public, without having to "go down to the cellar...with a torch...and look in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of The Leopard'"[1] in order to find them.
- Union reform
- I firmly believe that unions have too much control over the market and workplace here in Canada; I have a fairly unique view on the results of union control, especially in blue collar municipalities such as Windsor, and I don't believe that unions should have as firm of a grasp on the job market, as it disenfranchises enterprising individuals interested in those branches of the workforce.
- Net-neutral national broadband and wireless broadband
- Canadian broadband service providers are notoriously non-free -- they charge considerable amounts for basic broadband access, and practice non-neutral and monopolistic business practices with the networks. I believe broadband access needs to be separated from telecoms and cable providers, and placed into the hands of the people, for a truly free and neutral information access system.
- Education reform
- I firmly believe education should adopt practices put in place throughout the Free and Open Source community. A proper education is necessary to ensure the economy and livelihood of future generations, and we need push as soon as possible to make education one of the top priorities of the current generations to look at and revise.
What I am currently doing
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Windsor studying Computer Science, intending to pursue my Masters and Doctorate of Philosophy, specializing in furthering the education sector with access to technologies to improve the learning experience.
In the future
I will have completed my undergraduate degree by the next scheduled federal election, and while I am considering pursuing graduate studies at the post-secondary level (M.C.S. and Ph.D.), I am interested in running as the representative of the Pirate Party; however, as I will not be pursuing, at the very minimum, my Ph.D. in Windsor, I cannot, in good faith, guarantee my candidacy at the moment. Pending the completion of my Bachelors of Computer Science, I will be able to determine the potential for candidacy in the future, once I have established a permanent residence.
Reasons for joining the Pirate Party of Canada
I do not believe that the current political representation adequately deals with modern topics of copyright reform, privacy, and technology with respect to the modern age. I believe that the Pirate Party will not only bring these topics to the attention of the current political field, but also -- in the potential for gaining not only seats, but the possibility of forming a majority government -- make these topics high priorities for the country, in order to bring about a free and open country, safe for the individual citizen.
